Breast Implant Options in San Diego, CA
Breast augmentation is the most widely performed plastic surgery offered today. Every year, hundreds of thousands of women choose to enhance the size and shape of their breasts with implants, and this trend continues to rise year after year.
During your consultation with Dr. Pollack, he will explain your breast implant options and guide you to the correct implant for your augmentation wishes.
How Will My Implants Choice Change My Augmentation?
The decision to adopt a larger bust is only one small portion of the breast augmentation process. You will need to make several decisions regarding the specifications of your implants prior to your surgery. These decisions will affect the outcome of your augmentation by altering how your implants appear on your chest.

What Are My Breast Implant Options?
Breast implants are customizable. Women must consider all of the following options when choosing their breast implants.
Implant Size
Breast implants offer subtle or dramatic enhancement. The amount of increase will depend on the size of the chosen implant. While some women assume that bigger is better when it comes to breast size, a more natural, athletic look is the current trend. Women should also take their body frame into consideration.
By maintaining the proportion between the breasts and the body, women will achieve a more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable result.
Implant Material
What Are Silicone Implants?
Silicone implants are made of a thick silicone gel that feels and reacts similarly to natural breast tissue; this gel is encapsulated in a silicone shell that allows it to maintain its shape and safety. The gel contained inside of the implants is cohesive, which means it sticks to itself and is less likely to leak out when ruptured. These implants are approved for women over the age of 22.
What Are Saline Implants?
Saline implants are made of a sterile saline solution. This solution fills the silicone shell and often offers greater cleavage than silicone implants. While saline implants can provide natural-looking results, most women who choose these implants are interested in a more augmented look. Saline implants are not as natural to the touch, but they are less expensive than silicone implants. Saline implants are approved for women over the age of 18.
Implant Shape
What Are Round Implants?
Round implants consist of a semi-circle shape that provides equal volume to the upper and lower portion of the breasts. Round implants are filled with either saline or silicone gel.
Round implants provide natural and even fullness to the breast.
What Are Anatomical Implants?
Anatomical implants—often referred to as gummy bear implants—are shaped like a teardrop. These implants are thinner at the top and fuller at the bottom. Anatomical implants are made of a thicker silicone gel consistency that keeps its shape long after it has been placed in the chest.
Implant Texture
What Are Smooth Implants?
Smooth implants have a smooth silicone surface that is soft to the touch. Smooth implants are less likely to wrinkle because they can rotate freely in the breast capsule.
What Are Textured Implants?
The outer shells of textured implants are rough. This texture allows them to act as an anchor when placed in the chest, and they will not move around in the breast pocket the way that smooth implants can. Textured shells are essential for shaped implants that must keep a specific position in the chest.
*It is important to note that some textured implants—specifically BIOCELL® textured implants from Allergan™—have been linked to breast implant-associated anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare form of lymphoma that develops in the scar tissue. This condition requires the removal of the implants.
Implant Profile
Implant profile determines the projection of the implant and affects how the implants appear on your chest. Two implants with the same volume will have very different appearances if their profiles are different. Profiles vary depending on the width of the implant base and the height of the implant.
What Are Low Profile Implants?
The broad base of a low profile implant offers less projection from the chest. Low profile implants are flatter and are ideal for women who have a wider chest wall.
What Are Moderate Profile Implants?
Moderate profile implants offer more projection than low profile implants. The base of these implants is not as wide since they project further off of the chest. Moderate profile implants are best for women with a smaller or narrower chest wall.
What Are High Profile Implants?
High profile implants have a narrow base, meaning that they project the furthest off the chest. These implants are ideal for women with a narrow chest wall, and will not create excess volume on the sides of the breasts.
What Do Breast Implants Cost?
Your breast implants are highly customizable. Because of this, it is challenging to provide an accurate cost estimate for your breast augmentation before your consultation. The cost of breast augmentation varies depending on the specifications of your implants as well as the geographical location of the practice, anesthesia fees, facility fees, surgeon’s fees, pre-surgical tests, and post-surgical medications.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average surgeon’s fee for breast augmentation is $4,294 in 2024. This does not include additional fees such as implant cost, operating room, and anesthesia. This price amount will vary significantly depending on the above factors.
