Facial Aging and rejuvenation – Part 2 – Eat healthy
Skin care, such as microdermabrasion, acid peels, and laser treatments, as well as daily moisturizers and antioxidant creams, is the ideal way to protect the skin from aging and environmental damage. But just as important is diet. Eating foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals is critical to maintaining healthy skin. While supplements are useful, obtaining these nutrients from food is always better.
Vitamins such as A, C, and D are important for skin health, and are found in bright colored vegetables like peppers and spinach, and low fat dairy like yogurt. Antioxidants abound in blueberries, tomatoes, blackberries , and strawberries, and are vital in preventing cellular DNA damage. Selenium, found in whole grains, may prevent skin cancer.
Essential fatty acids, which can be found in fish and walnuts, are important for cell membrane health, and help the cells retain the water that “plumps” them up!
And last but definitely not least: WATER! Drink lots of water during the day. It makes you feel better, and keep all of your cells healthy and hydrated. It also helps your body clear the “toxins” that it produces everyday.
Remember, your skin is the largest organ of the body. It needs healthy nutrients and lots of water to stay healthy.
