Male Body Hair
Why do men grow more hair on their back, ear, nose, and eyebrows as they get older?
As some men age, their levels of a testosterone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) rise, while levels of regular testosterone drop. Ironically though, high levels of DHT are also the cause of baldness and increased hair growth in places like the back, ears and nose. Whether or not this will happen to a man is mostly dependant on genetics, but body-building and steroid use can also be triggers as can stress, a diet high in fat and low in fruits and vegetables. If this is a concern for you, ask your doctor about medications to balance hormone levels. This can slow growth on the body and also slow loss on top of the head.
Another way to manage the unwanted hair is to wax or have laser hair removal treatments. Contact Del Mar Plastic Surgery for more information.
